Indoor Cricket has been a popular recreational sporting choice in New Zealand for well over twenty years, with the basic nature of the game ensuring it’s success up until now and for many years to come.
-
Like all of our sports, Indoor Cricket is played on courts that are surrounded on all sides by fully tensioned nets that all form are an integral part of the game, being used to both score runs and effect dismissals.
-
One of the keys to the ongoing popularity of Indoor Cricket is the fact that players get to participate in every facet of the game, having to bat and bowl as well as field.
-
An Indoor Cricket team is comprised of eight players.
-
Each game consists of two innings, with each innings being made up of sixteen overs.
-
A typical game will take approximately 60 to 70 minutes to complete.
-
Each player must bowl two overs and then bat in a partnership that lasts for four overs.
-
When either batter is dismissed, runs are deducted from the batting teams score and both batters continue to bat until all four overs have been faced.
-
Batters may be dismissed in any of the manners associated with the traditional outdoor game, and they may also be caught out from the nets surrounding the court.
-
Runs are scored through a combination of physical and zonal runs.
-
Physical runs are scored when the batters cross and successfully make their ground.
-
Zonal runs are scored when the ball is played into the nets surrounding the court, but only if a physical run has been completed off the same delivery.
-
Indoor Cricket is an enjoyable and exciting game that is easy to learn and play, and fully graded weekly competitions are available all year round.
